Goals & Ambitions

Short Term Competitive

To win gold medals at the following events:

  • SOCOG Test Event
  • US Open 2000 (February 3, Hawaii)
  • World Cup 2000 (April 14-16, Lyons, France)
  • Australian Invitational Event 2000 (June 14, Canberra)
  • Sydney 2000 Olympic Games

Short Term Non-Competitive

  • To assist my Taekwondo students to fulfil their potential
  • To improve my coaching and mentor skills within the competitive arena and the club environment.
  • To increase my involvement in the Korea/Australia exchange program.

Long Term Competitive

  • To become the first dual Olympic gold medal winner in the heavyweight division.
  • To surpass the current record of 4 consecutive gold medals at the World Championships.
  • To attain the most valuable player award (MVP) at the World Championships.

Long Term Non-Competitive

  • To assist Taekwondo to provide each state with developmental offices for the promotion of the sport.
  • To help facilitate Taekwondo being accepted as a legitimate component of schools physical education curriculum.
  • To improve the image and raise the profile of Taekwondo with the general public.
  • To become the future Australian Olympic Coach.

Taekwondo History

  • Commenced Taekwondo late 1988 (age 11).
  • First Competitive appearance 1988, Victorian Championships at Broadmeadows Victoria as a Junior Yellow Belt.
  • First Victorian Championship Win 1992 (age 15), Senior Red Belt 3, Middleweight.
  • First Australian Championship Win 1992, Senior Red Belt, Middleweight.
  • Selection for Elite Squad 1995 (age 18, Black Belt Heavyweight), selected to train with a squad of 15 athletes from around Australia, from which Australia’s 2000 Olympic Games Taekwondo team will be selected.
  • Currently coached by Mr Jin Tae Jeong (Fin Weight, Graduate of Yong-In University – Korea’s most highly respected tertiary institution, twice Gold Korean champion, seven times bronze medal winner). Training takes place at the South Melbourne Australian Taekwondo Stadium, for four hours per day, six days per week.
  • Member of club & National demonstration teams.
  • Assistant Instructor JTJ Taekwondo Club.
  • Current Scholarship Holder – Victorian Institute of Sport and Olympic Athlete Program.
