2008 Korean Open/Korean Festival

Taekwondo Australia wishes to advise that the Korean competition has been cancelled due to the organisers of the competition changing the entry criteria. While this situation is beyond our control, we however apologise to the players and coaches concerned for any difficulties this has caused.

Taekwondo Australia is currently sourcing an alternative event and as information comes to hand we will advise through the National website.

On behalf of the National High Performance Program we thank everyone for their interest and support of the program and look forward to providing all athletes and coaches a further opportunity to participate in the very near future.

What Is The High Performance Program?

Taekwondo Australia has implemented a Broadbased High Performance Program that works with the grassroots clubs right through to elite level development. The National Sports Committee (NSC) has recognised for some time now that the top level can only be improved be having a strong broad base. As such the NSC has recommended to the Executive Council whom recognised it as a positive step forward and adopted the broadbased program.

TAI will now endorse approximately 20 centres across Austalia as High Performance Centres (HPC) which have proven success as producing High Performance Athletes and fullfil the criteria. This is an essentail acknowledgement for all their hard work in the past and supporting their future to produce more elite level athletes and help develop more HPC's.

Many of our Interim Staff have University Degrees in Sport Coaching, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Physiotherapy, and Psychology. Add to the mix, international coaching and competition experience such as World and Olympic events. The NSC believes it makes for a well rounded and educated source of development for the future of Sport Taekwondo in Australia.

The objective of the process set out in the Performance Structure is to provide pathways and opportunities for athletes, coaches and officials who wish to enhance, progress and perform at the highest level possible for Taekwondo Australia Inc.

The NSC are taking a "build it and they will come" approach with the sport. When value is seen and proven within a framework then most people will want to access this through the pathways which are basically Club based-to State Based-and to National Programs. We also recognise that not all athletes respond to any one method of training and as such we acknowledge talent from other pathways and within the Performance Structure. It is however required interconnecting participation by athletes, coaches and officials at all levels to be eligible to access the benefits of the High Performance Programs and any funding that may be availableas a portion of the HPP training fee will go to a develop fund.

The NSC also recognises the value within the clubs and is deteremined to take the informaion out to the club environment by filtering the current most up to date sport science principles along with evolution of sport Taekwondo given rule changes at any given time.

On this page you will find information that relates to overall Performance Structure for the sport, National Teams/Squads, Elite programs as they stand from time to time.

Players training at these HPP programs must understand that it is an addition to their normal club training and not an instead of option. As such you must continue to train at your club and have their endorsement to train in the HPP. Taekwondo Australia is very much against player poaching and would see any poaching as a negative impact on the HPP
